In the last two hours online I have found out that they have small thorns and do great in zone five.  Unfortunately, I can not find a picture of the original killarney rose popular at the turn of the century.  All I really wanted was a pic, but I hope I've helped you out.

Seeing as they were bred in Northern Ireland, it would be a safe bet that they would be.
The only way to know for sure would be to give them a shot. Get them on their own roots if you can. Ownroot roses are much more hardy than their grafted counterparts.

Yes, killarney roses are thornless.
