Bloom:
Deep pink. Large, single (4-8 petals), borne mostly solitary bloom form. Once-blooming spring or summer.
Habit:
Short, armed with thorns / prickles, suckers on its own roots, upright. Medium, matte, dark green foliage. 5 to 7 leaflets.
Height: 8'2" to 9'10" (250 to 300cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 2b through 9b. Very hardy. vigorous.

Notes:
R. acicularis subsp. sayi. occurs in the boreal forests of North America, while R. acicularis subsp. acicularis is Eurasian but extends into Alaska. See nice herbarium specimens from Saskatchewan in Colin's Virtual Herbarium. A semi-double form of R. acicularis subsp. sayi with 16 petals was described in Moose Range, Saskatchewan.
