May 26, 2021. One year old! First bloom. Own-root from The Antique Rose Emporium. Classic rugosa scent of clove spice and damask rose which dissipates quickly from its initial intensity in the morn. This and her mamma Sarah Van Fleet both get powdery mildew in conditions favourable for it, but not so bad that it can't be ignored. I actually sprayed despite conventional wisdom not to because rugosas hate it and will defoliate. Guess what- absolutely nothing happened except the mildew was gone. Take that, things I've heard! Completely cane hardy. Beginning to build size. Wicked prickles as expected from this class. Beautiful shrub. Repeats well! Z5b/Sunset 41 South Central Michigan

Surprise! What a difference one year makes. June 1, 2022. Early morning.Two years old, own-root. Delicious fragrance. Blooms often open with the palest blush of delicate porcelain pink but are overall viewed as crisply white, glowing under moonlit June nights. No hanging, nasty spent blooms on this fair lady. Will get powdery mildew, no black spot observed. Wicked prickles, iron clad cold hardiness. Z5b/Sunset 41 South Central Michigan
