This is to demonstrate that attempting to control Mermaid to a small space MAY be possible in the short term. This is a short picket fence in Santa Barbara, literally across the street from the Pacific Ocean. Though not something I would recommend, it IS possible with a great deal of pruning, at least for a while. Santa Barbara, CA. Photos posted 9/28/2021

May 18, 2021 in San Diego, California. Plant is 25 foot tall and approx 25 feet across, trained as a tree that touches ground only at a single self stem trunk, shown in the beliw picture. Standard size tray table for size comparison. Planted from a band purchased on Ebay in 2008. Requires pruning every 2 months to maintain lift off ground and produces several trash cans full of clippings every time. Beware this beast!!!
