'Cinco de Mayo™' rose Reviews & Comments

I LOVE this rose! Mine has a nice fragrance, and blooms profusely. I admit it has an odd color combo, so it kind of needs it's own special spot. Mine is right next to my front door...everyone comments on how interesting it is. Seems extremely disease resistant...haven't had a single problem and have never sprayed it. I noticed some people posted pics with magenta and purple flowers....never had anything like that on my bush...wonder what they are feeding theirs(??)... I have to diagree with the foliage comments too.. I think that the leaves are proportionate to the flower size and my bush is very full of leaves without any holes in it. Honestly, I don't have any complaints about this rose, except that I wish it were a larger bush.

Ok, right now in cold weather I have the garish orange pink blooms everyone must be talking about, and I agree they are not a pretty sight. However, I like the foliage, it seems pretty full to me and also I like the shiny burgundy leaves. The flowers I got last year in hotter weather were much prettier than right now, so I will post an update at the next flush.

I have seen about a dozen mature bushes of this Cinco De Mayo rose and was very disappointed since the build-up and hype were quite strong for it. I generally love the "odd" colors like the russets, browns, etc.....but I just cannot stomach the colors of the blooms of Cinco De Mayo!! I think it is garish and hard looking and the fragance is just so-so. Also, I think that the foliage is very disappointing as well. I always contend that a rose must have as good foliage as it's blooms and this one is just that I am afraid. The too small leaves have an odd coloring whether new or mature that is very blah and distracting from the blooms as well. The canes and stems grow very angular and not elegant at all. The foliage I saw on three fully grown blooms a few months ago was very sparse looking as well. They did seem to be fairly disease resistant which is a plus. But, the ugly flowers, odd color and sparse foliage, and ho-hum scent are just too much for even my lax requirements for a decent garden rose. I guess this is a rose that you will either love or hate without much middle ground to give here. I will pass on this rose as I think there are much better looking roses available than this one. John
