Introduced in United States by Robert Scott & Son in 1889 as 'Miss May Paul'.
Introduced in Australia by C. F. Newman and Sons - Adelaide in 1894 as 'Miss May Paul'.

Bloom:
Lilac - white, red reverse.  Moderate fragrance.  Large, double (17-25 petals), cupped, globular bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Climbing, thornless (or almost).

USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
