In the 1968 APS-Registration of 'Black Swan', it is stated that "Black Velvet originated from B. Cross x Chocolate Soldier", while the 1957 Registration of 'Black Velvet gives the parentage as 'Chippewa' x 'Matilda Lewis'. 'Chippewa' is possibly then ('Chocolate Soldier' x P. officinalis) x 'Chocolate Soldier'.
