Introduced in Japan by Tokyo Nursery Co. in 1896 as 'Abokiu'.

Bloom:
Scarlet, purple shading, ages to purple .  Average diameter 12".  Very large, semi-double to double bloom form.  Midseason.

USDA zone 2a and warmer.
