For those of us ignorant of the former 'favorite rating system', please explain your rating system more explicitly--especially the numerical assessments attached to 'excellent', etc. Is it a 1-10, or 1-5 rating, with 1 being the highest rating (not self-evident; it could be the worst)? And what are the possible ratings (excellent, fair, poor?) Sorry if this info is on one of these tabs--missed it, if so.

The ratings are now Poor; Fair; Good; and Excellent. We do not use a numerical system. Please help HMF by rating the roses you have experience with.

As a side note we will be bringing back "Favorite" rose lists as a separate entity from the rating system. Many of our site guests wrote about missing the Favorite Rose lists.

In my NJ garden this rose gets thrips. I do not spray for bugs.

Polar Ice, was new to me in 2003. We saw it blooming in a garden center & decided to try it. It's been a healthy bush, growing vigorously. So far it is a little over 3 ft tall but almost 5 ft wide!!!

The buds on this rose open as a large, pale pink, double flower and fade to a creamy white. Interesting quilted gray-green leaves cover this extremely disease resistant and cold hardy plant.

How can this be a Hybrid Rugosa with no rugosa parentage?

It's simple. Polareis is the hybrid rugosa from Russia. Polaris is the wichurana/setigera/foetida hybrid from Horvath. Two different roses.
