Description... Although always classed as a Hybrid Perpetual this rose has more in common with the Bourbons... Flowers: with age they expand to a flat array of soft parma-violet. It must be well nurtured in good soil; it does not take kindly to poor soils. Assisduous dead-heading will encourage later blooms -- those which appear late in the season surpass the earlier crops in deep colours...

Reine des Violettes A Hybrid Perpetual raised by Millet-Malet in 1860, a seedling of 'Pope Pius IX'. On good soil it makes a tall, almost thornless shrub up to 2 m high. The flowers open carmine or cerise and later develop violet shading. They are very sweetly scented and remiscent of a Gallica in shape and colour.
