My plant here in Tampa is several years old and I grow it in a tree-like format trained onto rebar for support. I have to prune it hard and often in order to not have my east bed and driveway made impassable by the rampant THORNY growth. Seems utterly disease and nematode proof.

This species is very remontant and reliable in Tampa despite the very lean and xeric conditions I grow it in.
