S. J. Bisdee.  Red Roses in Tasmania.
Souvenir de Claudius Denoyel is well worth growing.n In colour it is rather dull early, but improves vastly when the weather warms up, It is a fine bloom with delightful fragrance and a good healthy grower. I understand it is not a good colour in and around Sydney.

Dr. A. S. Thomas.  Red Roses.
Souvenir de Claudius Denoyel is not sufficiently well known. Its plant is highly disease-resistant and perfect in habit of growth. The blooms consist of about thirty large thick crimson petals with dark shadings; many are well up to exhibition standard, but, unfortunately, more than half of them have divided centres.

Souvenir de Claudius Denoyel is not a good colour here, as a rule, till quite late, but its fragrance is a sheer delight.
