Registration name: Souvenir du Docteur Jamain (Hybrid Perpetual, Lacharme, 1865)
Origin:
Bred by François Lacharme (France, 1865).
Introduced in Australia by Charles Wyatt, Frogmore Nursery in 1868 as 'Souvenir du Docteur Jamain'.
Class:
Hybrid Perpetual.  
Bloom:
Violet to dark red, red shading.  Moderate fragrance.  Medium, double (17-25 petals), cupped bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Few or no prickles/thorns.  

Height: 5' to 10' (150 to 305cm).  Width: 3' (90cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 4b and warmer.  Plant in partial shade for best color.  Feed this rose well.  
Patents:
Patent status unknown (to HelpMeFind).
Notes:
Some disagreement about parentage (See References).
The rose sold today as 'Souvenir d'Alphonse Lavallée' may, in fact, be 'Souvenir du Docteur Jamain'. See References for more information.
