Rock 'N Roll (MACfirwal); McGredy 1989; 'Sexy Rexy' x 'Maestro'; orange red and yellow hand-painted; 55 reports on 77 bushes; 1-6 years; l.8 metres; 7.7 rating. Favourably commented on by most reporters over the years. The bushes are strong and healthy with attractive bronzy foliage which is a perfect foil for the very colourful blooms of orange red and lemon yellow in the hand-painted style. Flowers corne in well shaped clusters suitable for showing, repeat is a little slow and it can throw long growths in the autumn and flowering is reduced. A real show stopper in the garden when in flower.

Favourable reports on this comparatively new floribunda in the hand-painted style, very colourful in the garden and is a striking colour of orange red and lemon yellow. Flowers come in well shaped clusters suitable for showing. One reporter feels it will supersede 'Matangi'. It is a strong, healthy, robust bush with attractive bronzy foliage, can throw long growths in autumn, and flowering is reduced. A real show stopper in the garden.

Rock 'N Roll Raised by Sam McGredy New Zealand. Colour is scarlet with a pale band at the edge of each petal. The bush is ultra healthy and vigorous. An excellent garden rose.

Certificate of Merit. Rock 'n Roll (Macfirwal). ['Sexy Rexy' x 'Maestro'], a very gay hand-painted orange, red and lemon yellow floribunda by Sam McGredy. The flowers come in both large and small heads of good exhibition form. The bushes are very strong growing, of above average height, with healthy medium to light green semi-glossy foliage, red when young. This rose would probably have gone higher in the poll if the autumn flowering had been a little less sparse.

From his [McGredy's] species work he produced the handpainted line with such memorable and exotic roses as 'Picasso', 'Matangi', 'Maestro' (Mackinja), 'Sue Lawley' and 'Eyepaint'. 1990 saw the best of them coming on the market. It is Rock 'n Roll (Macfirwal) and it is outstanding.

Rock 'n Roll MACfirwaI; McGredy 1989; 'Sexy Rexy' x 'Maestro'; hand painted yellow/orange edges; 3 reports on 3 bushes; 1 year; 1 metre; 7.8 rating. The unusual coloured florets come in clusters and are best at fully open stage. The whole is most pleasing. The bush does produce profusely and repeat is fast. The foliage is a rich plum colour and is healthy, though Wairarapa has detected a few rust spores on it. Franklin and Mid-Canterbury recommend it highly and Wairarapa almost agrees.

Sam McGredy won a Gold Medal for 'Rock 'n Roll' MACfirwal ('Sexy Rexy' x 'Maestro'), a Cluster Flower with Hand-Paint pattern flowers of an orange, vermilion and yellow blend but without scent. It has always made an impressive display.
