Introduced in Canada by Corn Hill Nursery, Ltd. in 1987 as 'Survivor'.

Dark red. Semi-double (9-16 petals) bloom form. Occasional repeat later in the season.

When 'Survivor' was introduced by Robert Osborne's Corn Hill Nursery, it was said to be a seedling which had been bred by Felicitas Svejda but not introduced by the Explorer program. The parentage was reported to be 'Old Blush' x 'Fru Dagmar Hastrup'. Dr. Svejda says that 'Survivor' is not one of her roses.

'Survivor' was given that name by Robert Osborne because it survived extreme winter conditions when many other roses were killed back.

Morden #71659501 (RSM I2) has 'Adelaide Hoodless' (RSM 65) as seed parent and an unnamed seedling (RSM 95, also known as RSM 6118) as pollen parent. RSM 6118 is probably from the cross Crimson Glory X (Donald Prior X R. arkansana).

There are many points of similarity between #71659501 (RSM I2) and 'Survivor' (which Osborne received under the code #75659-5015) because the two are siblings bred in different years. The plant labeled as 'Survivor' at Morden has flowers of a slightly lighter color than RSM I2.
