Introduced in United States by Armstrong Nursery in 1950 as 'Sutter's Gold, Cl.'.
Introduced in Australia by Hazlewood Bros. Pty. Ltd. in 1956 as 'Sutter's Gold, Cl.'.

Bloom:
Golden-yellow, orange highlights.  Strong fragrance.  up to 25 petals.  Average diameter 4.75".  Large, double (17-25 petals), high-centered bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Habit:
Climbing, few or no prickles/thorns.  Glossy foliage.  

Height: up to 12' (up to 365cm).  Width: up to 5' (up to 150cm).

Notes:
Johann August Sutter (originally: Suter) (February 28, 1803 Bern/Switzerland - June 18, 1880 Washington D.C.), migrated 1834 to California and colonised from 1839 a large region he called New Helvetia in the Sacramento valley. When gold was found on his land in 1848, he was ruined by the chaos of the Gold Rush.
