Bred by Jean-Baptiste (père) Guillot (1803-1882) (France, 1859).
Introduced in Australia by Joseph Harris, South Yarra Nurseries in 1865 as 'Victor Emmanuel'.

Bloom:
Purple or blackish carmine, ages to violet .  Medium, full (26-40 petals) bloom form.  Blooms in flushes throughout the season.  
Growing:
USDA zone 5b through 10b.

Notes:
Victor Emmanuel II, 1st king of Italy, was born on 14 March 1820 in Turin, Italy. He died 9 January 1878. Work on the National Monument to King Victor Emmanuel II was begun in 1885 by Giuseppe Sacconi. On 17 March 1861, he was proclaimed king of Italy.
