I am following the mystery of this rose on Facebook, my question is who started calling it "Dr Peck" and what is the earliest known reference for using that name? Is it a study name or published anywhere?

This rose is the ultimate survivor (except when sons get into the garden). It has turned up in every state of Australia, and even in a derelict garden on Balladonia station, in the Nullarbor.

Did you manage to get hold of a plant? If not, we have a spare budded onto Dr Huey, which I could post to you. Send me a private message with your address, if you want one.

Would anyone know where to buy this rose, now that Mistydowns doesn't seem to sell it anymore? I think they used to sell it under "Campbelltown Rose"

Where are you in Australia? We can get you a sucker of this rose.

We got it budded onto Dr Huey, to be collected this August (probably late August), for a historic garden at Blakiston. There should be a few spares. Depending on where you are, we could post it to you, if you'd rather not risk the suckering. Our budder charges very little, so we can use plants from him as a fundraiser for Heritage Roses.

I was simply amazed the other day to see a lone hip on a bush of my "Mrs. Something" (from a Denmark, W.A. fence in 1995). It was the first time I have ever seen a hip on my six bushes in 21 years. The rose is growing next to a R. eglanteria. A photograph is too large to upload and cut-cat syndrome here prevents me from doing more than just report this one turning-orange, oval-ish hip.

Later edit. Hip sown, but nothing eventuated.
