Heather Rumsey, Dural, N.S.W. This is the ‘white’ sport which I think is even nicer than the pink. The same lovely double flower, usually tinged with soft pink on the edges of the outer petals. The climbing form shows off the nodding blooms to perfection.

The necessity for careful observation is exemplified by the case of Climbing White Maman Cochet about the beginning of this century.  At a local show in New South Wales several exhibitors filled in the time while the judges were at their work by walking through a cemetery. Here they saw growing on a grave a plant which they thought looked like White Maman Cochet, but it was a climbing Rose, and there was then no Climbing White Maman Cochet. They took several flowers and several pieces of wood, which were divided amongst the judges. Two judges thought nothing further of the wood, but the other two budded eyes from it on to stocks, and the plants eventually climbed and turned out to be true climbers of White Maman Cochet. At a later date, the original plant on the grave was heavily pruned, and, as far as is known, never produced any further climbing branches.
