Bred by Richard Bagg (United States, 1908). Introduced in Australia by H. Kemp in 1909 as 'W. R. Smith'.
Bloom:
Light pink, darker outer petals, yellow undertones. Strong fragrance. Blooms in flushes throughout the season.
Habit:
Height of 5' to 12' (150 to 365 cm). Width of 5' (150 cm).
Growing:
USDA zone 6b through 9b (default).
Notes:
William R. Smith was the first superintendent of the Botanic Gardens in Washington, D.C. who died in 1912. Different opinions on parentage - see References. 'William R. Smith' in commerce in Europe is often 'Marie van Houtte'.
