Notes:
Margaret Furness advises:
Thelangerin Mauve. It's been pointed out to me that this must be a seedling rather than a form of R indica major, so it should have its own page. It was found as an understock to two Clark roses, (Harbinger 1923 and Tonner's Fancy 1928), on 'Thelangerin' station (large farming property) on the Hay Plains on New South Wales. This is an area prone to prolonged drought, and dependent on river water to survive. The rose flowers only in spring but like its parent it starts early and has a long season. Some years it has more pink in the colouring. Drooping flowers, darker on the reverse of the guard petals. It's a vigorous shrub/ climber, moderately armed with short prickles. I don't recall seeing hips on it but will check in summer/autumn. May show mildew on the buds. It strikes readily from cuttings.
Thelangerin has a hard g, accent on the first and third syllables.
