Hybrid China, Species Cross.  

Years ago I crossed Rosa foliolosa with Rosa mutabilis. Many of the nuts that resulted from this crossing germinated after only one year. None of the resulting seedlings have progressed beyond the cotyledon stage. Only when I used Fonita ( r. foliolosa x r.nitida ) as mother did seedlings develop. The purpose of this cross is to introduce the more frequent flowering gene with a simultaneous increase in winter hardiness.
