So much for keeping my fingers crossed for my once enormous Alberic Barbier. The pride of my garden I dare say. After the first harsh winter of 2009/2010 it came back very slowly, which made me nourish some feeble hopes of it being restored. The second harsh winter in a row, however, sent it down memory lane for good. As you can see, only the withered canes of this once glorious rose are left now. I have decided to keep them for memory`s sake, hoping that the two new plants of this rose, which I have resently planted will reach the glorious heights of their predecessor eventually. I still keep my fingers crossed. Well, I know what you are thinking, but I guess it wouldn`t hurt anyway. Leverkusen and Purity have also been reduced some, but they are luckily still there. Other roses in the photo are: Felicite et Perpetue, Emelie, and Burghausen, and one flower of Gerbe Rose( far left); together with the top part of an enormous clematis Etoile Violette. On the bright side I now have a better view in all directions from the sitting place underneath the arches (not visible in the photo). The photo was taken on the 31st of July 2011.
