This plant, a former water rose, was overwintered for five months (at least) in a cube of ice in the five gallon bucket she was grown in the summer before. The ice has thawed and she looks as good as her sister in the garden. This is one tough rose. She'll be planted in the soil this season so she can have a wide range of nutrients, not just goldfish offal. It's not a good idea to overwinter water roses in ice under 10 feet of snow but I guess this plant didn't know it. More info on water roses as www.growalaska.net.
