Pat Austin reeked like tobacco when I first got her. She improved in alkaline soil. My other own-root Pat is compact 2' x 1.5' and doesn't need pruning. Her blooms fry in the heat at 80 degrees, even in partial shade. Pat doesn't make good cut flower, her blooms shatter. She's disease-free with glossy, dark green leaves and booms well in alkaline soil.
