KBW: which one is more vigorous and taller? Troika or Bronze Star. Thank you.

Hi Straw
In Islamabad Climate, both reach a height of 4-5 ft easily. The bush is tall with few canes and doesn't spread much. Troika blooms are more beautiful however Bronze Star produces much higher number of blooms per year.

I grew Bronze Star for only 5 months as tiny own-root .. really love its HUGE deep orange blooms that don't fade. The scent was yummy fruity in my alkaline clay. Then zone 5a winter killed it. Could be my fault that I didn't dig deep enough for drainage. I might try that again. Are both your Troika and Bronze Star grafted on Centifolia? How does Bronze Star handle your over 100 F heat? Do you have Bronze Star in partial shade? HMF stated Bronze Star as a "Florist rose", so it might be wimpy as own-root, if it's meant for sheltered-nursery.

My Broze Star is grafted on centifolia while Troika is perhaps multiflora or canina I am not sure. Bought it from UK.
Both roses are brilliant in spring but in hot summer when the temperature ranges between 100 to 115*F, both do not perform well. Troika, in full sun last year, didn't bloom even once after spring. This year I shifted the pot to part shade and it has bloomed during summers but bloom size is small. Bronze Star turns into a insignificant looking single flower when the temps cross 105*F. There is almost no fragrance in Bronze Star or Troika in this heat.

Many thanks. When I bought Bronze star and Betty White as own-roots. Betty White has thick & dark-green & large foliage and didn't like the wet peat-moss potting soil, which I mixed in wet & acidic alfalfa pellets .. but Bronze Star LOVED that soaking wet & acidic soil. Betty White as French Meilland bloomed well with my alkaline tap in hot & dry, but pale-leaves Bronze Star didn't bloom unless tons of acidic rain. Bronze Star is NOT meant for fast-draining loamy soil, nor for hot & dry. When HMF stated that a rose is "a florist rose" like Bronze Star, I think they mean it's to be grown in a shady & well-watered green-house, rather than blazing hot sun or cold zone 5a
