(1 of 5). Rosa tschatyrdagi grows in Crimea on the north shore of the Black Sea. Named and described by the Ukrainian botanist Vladimir Gennadievich Chrshanovski, it was discovered on Chatyr Dagh. "Dagh" means mountain and "Chatyr" means tent (from the shape of the mountain). Hence it would be called the "Tent Mountain Rose". My friend, Michael Tallman proposed this humorous homophone to pronounce Rosa tschatyrdagi: "Rosa shot-her-doggie"! Chatyr Dagh is nicknamed the "Swiss Cheese Mtn." because of the multitude of beautiful caves it contains. Photographed May 13, 2019 at "Rose Woods" here in the Mayacmas Mtns. near Petrified Forest, California.
