Slightly less than 1/2 acre, basically flat. Backyard is mostly raised bed planters and 3 bedding areas in NW, NE and SW corners. It is challenging creating a sense of mystery and surprise when the topography basically allows you to see everything at once. We are trying to create separate "rooms" with shrubs, trees, contoured soil and structures.
Property bought in 2013 after being vacant 2 years following owner's passing, with much overrun by bamboo which we've been working to eradicate.
We garden in cottage garden style. We like to color-theme our gardens to enhance visual impact. We've installed a blue and gold bed along semi-circular driveway, and a pink bed in concentric semi-circles in back. In raised bed planters, we have pink/red, red, dark red, smoky red, orange, and peach/pink.
As of January 2014, we are designing and installing a shaded garden northeast corner.
