The Garden of Joy is the name of my garden. It is located in the central area of Spain. At the beginning of 2014 we came to live here and since then I am trying to create a garden whose elements are in harmony. I love roses and that's why I grow a lot (right now there may be more than a hundred rose bushes in my garden) I also try to have a lot of diversity of trees and shrubs to create a favorable environment for visits of birds and other fauna.
I do not use chemicals in my garden. Pests and diseases are combated with natural compounds that do not harm the environment.
The soil is of granite origin. This causes it to leach easily. Water and nutrients quickly go down. It is a fairly sandy and poor soil. The pH tends to a certain degree of acidity.
These problems of my soil try to alleviate them by extending a generous layer of manure (horse and goat) twice a year (late autumn and early spring). On this layer of manure I always replace mulch (pieces of wood bark).
On the ground surrounding the rosebushes I do not use manure. I put a good layer of compost that I do myself in my two compostadoras with remnants of the kitchen and the garden.
Weather. This is a rather extreme climate. The winters are quite cold. Low and persistent frosts occur that can reach -1 ° / -5 ° C and some occasional occasion maybe a little less. Summers are very torrid. By day the temperatures are always above 30ºC. During the months of July and August it is very common that they reach 35 / 37ºC and even one day 40ºC.
This strong heat advises to protect the soil so that it stays wetted more time after the irrigation. That is why all plantations are protected with padding.
The woodland is composed of the trees of the area: oaks, pines and junipers. In addition, during these three years I have been incorporating to the garden some deciduous trees to bring interest during the autumn.
I cultivate bantantes rosas. They are my passion !! Rugged, hybrid of musk, English roses ... I have recently incorporated enough ramblers.
I write a blog that I invite you to visit. In it I share my experiences in this creation of my garden. This is the link to visit: http://eljardindelaalegriaenmadrid.blogspot.com.es/
