Adolph Otto was head gardener at the Belvoir estate in Zürich, Switzerland since 1845.
[From Hamburger Garten- und Blumenzeitung, 1858, p. 134:] Review of Otto's book... Since 13 years the roses on the beautiful Belvoir estate near Zurich have been cared for by the author with particular fondness, and thus he was given the best opportunity to collect a wealth of practical experience, which he, after conscientious examination, gave to the larger ones with the cultivation of roses concerned public in the mentioned book.

[From Rosa Helvetica, 1986, p. 45:] ...the first rose book in Switzerland [was written by] Adolph Otto, who was for 13 years head gardener of [Heinrich] Escher-Zollikofer at Belvoir Zürich, and also a German and member of the Zürich Horticultural Society.
