Dr. Earl BN. White bred peonies at White Lodge Peony Gardens in Kensington, Maryland, but later lived in Florida. He developed 4 cultivars, all being introduced by Gilbert Wild & Son. Other cultivars are 'Nancy', 'Massasoit', and 'Tecumseh', but they have not gained the prominence of 'Claire de Lune', the result of many years of crosses between P. mlokosewitschii and 'Monsieur Jules Elie'.
