It wasn't long before they had cornered the Rose market. [From The Old Rose Adventurer, by Brent C. Dickerson, p. 15:] The Dutch, particularly in the period approximately 1790 to 1820, overshadowed the rest of Europe in the production of new roses… with the Nineteenth Century begins a new era for the Rose… within a few years, there appeared numerous varieties of Gallicas, bred in the Dutch nurseries.
