From the Ross Roses website:
Ross Roses started in the business of growing roses for Australian gardens way back in 1902, with
George Ross starting a rose nursery in the Adelaide hills town of Montecute. George’s son
Alex Ross, as a schoolboy, learned to bud roses at the family nursery and joined George in this operation.
A lifetime with roses followed for Alex and he quickly became one of Australia’s most highly regarded rosarians. Alex moved the nursery to Torrensville, east of Adelaide City centre, and then southward to Edwardstown as the Adelaide suburbs encroached onto his land. His equally respected son, the late
Deane Ross continued the family business, eventually moving further south to the property being developed at Sturt.
Today, Ross Roses is managed by the fourth generation
Andrew Ross together with Deane’s wife
Maureen, thus making it truly a family business of generations spent with roses.
