I am falling hard for Etain though it's only in its second year in my hot, humid south Louisiana garden. It's HUGE already (I planted it only a year ago and it was barely a foot tall) and has collapsed the apparently too puny arbor I put it on. It's now in a large mass on the ground but doesn't seem to care. I love the flowers and although it only had a few blooms last year - the first year I planted it - it literally is covered in hundreds of buds at the moment. Cane's are shooting out everywhere and the foliage is beautiful. I didn't notice any signs of disease last year; I'm hopeful it will continue to be resistant to blackspot. I don't know how I'm going to get another arbor under it ... but it will have to wait until after this year's bloom b/c I won't risk destroying what is promissing to be a beautiful display.

This rose is in its second year in my very hot, very humid south Louisiana garden and it is doing extremely well. It's grown tremendously in just the past year and is currently covered with buds. Last year it was much smaller but the display was beautiful; this year it's amazing. Beautiful color and shape. It does tend to get BS - most of the roses in this climate do - but not as bad as some. So far so good with this rose.

Elie is in my hot humid south Louisiana garden going on its second year and this is defenitely a great rose for our climate. It's a monster already, having completely overtaken the fence that I planted it near in the Fall of 09 when it was less than a foot tall. By spring 2010, it had made it to the end of the six foot section and this spring it's arching up to the roof of our one-story house. Hardly an blackspot and no other signs of disease and easily grown from a cutting. When I moved it from its pot into the ground at the initial planting, I accidentally broke a cane off. I stuck the end in a pot and forgot about it. I now have two Elie's b/c the cane rooted and has become a large bush. Of course, it took me a year and a half until it bloomed this spring to figure out what it was ... Great rose for hot humid gardens.

I bought DB b/c it was hailed as heat tolerant and very vigorous and a non-stop bloomer. Alas, that has not been the case with mine , going on its third year in my south Louisiana very hot, humid garden. It's still puny and rarely blooms, though it gets lots of sun. It is almost always covered in black spot and has already dropped a fair portion of its leaves due to BS. I even tried a regimen of spraying this year, which I don't really like to do, starting early, to see if that would help it but does not appear to have made a difference. I hold out hope that it will establish itself this year and take off.
