Hi all,

I really liked Livin Easy BUT had to shovel prune because of bad blackspot in our no
spray garden!
LE got through our winters fine, grew fast, and LE bloomed well with 3+" bloom size...

It had blackspot in my garden as well. It died last year after a very, very cold winter in zone 6/5.

The final blow indeed came from a very cold winter too over here.

This is the third season in my garden, Zone 6b Switzerland and already showing signs of black spot - again!! I am going to make a habit of reading the member comments and not just the main page in future.

A very good intention! Sometimes ratings are a hint too.

So the statement in the description, that this rose is "very blackspot-resistent", can be referred to the garbage bin... or to the land of the fairy-tales.

I have to spray fungicide on all of my Hybrid Teas and Floribunda's here in hot humid florida. I can grow old Teas, Noisettes and some shrubs here without spraying, but I will continue to spray my HT's and FL's twice a month for unique and beautiful flowers .

It depends, In the cooler months I mix Daconil and Propaconizole together in one spray tank and apply it twice a month. In warmer weather I rotate with either Immunox or Theophanate Methyl, or Propaconizole mixed with Dithane. Rotation is key so blackspot doesn't develop resistance. My spray period is March through October. If we go through a hot and dry period, I usually quit spraying for that time since the warm and dry weather naturally reduces disease. I don't spray my OGRs or Shrub roses and they do fine. This program is for picky hybrid teas, like Peace, Brandy, Papa Meilland. I can grow Mr. Lincoln or floribundas like Valentine without spraying but I love yellos and orange long stemmed HTs as well

Hi all,

I'm trying a (own-root) Prairie Harvest rose here in our no spray Central Pa garden this year. So far this
rose has done very well in it's first season. No BS or PM... I'll report back at the end of next year...

Hi Jim,
I would like to know how your Own Root experiment went with PH. Did it flourish or sink like the Titanic?

Hi all,

Sweet Aftons blooms blew within 24 hours here... I did not care for the scent either.
Blackspotted really bad here! In a no spray garden I had to shovel pruned it!
Bloom size was on average 3" ...

Hi Jim! I had ordered this because the relatives of Charlotte Armstrong agree with my nose so much. I'm SO curious about the scent. She hasn't arrived yet but I'll be sure to keep the shovel handy, LOL!

Maybe you should look into some knockout roses.

SADLY, I had to shovel prune Precious Platinum! PP did real well with disease resistance
until the 3rd & 4th years. Then it got hit hard with Blackspot and started losing all its leaves!
Can't have that in our no spray garden!

I'm on the border of zones 5b and 6a. Precious Platinum can get bad winter damaged canes here in some winters. It Varies.
It being a own-root rose I decided this past season to cut ALL canes flush with the crown.
It came back just fine and was 4ft X 4ft by late July, early August.
So, i'd say, protect some of the cane length in colder climates.
Precious Platinum produces many, many, canes.
Precious Platinum is a king of candelebras. They are strong stemmed though. I only dead-head to the first or second set of leaves below the bloom. Once in awhile more if needed.
Doing this still produces 4" blooms and lots more of them.
Precious Platinum has a mild scent.
In cooler weather the blooms last about 14 days on the bush before they fall off.
I have seen a few last 16 days before falling off.
Very hot weather the blooms will not last as long on the bush.
Has decent life in a vase.

In zone 9B and a no spray garden it has shown no fungus diseases. It is tall and magnificent with long stemmed long lived roses. I love it.
