SoCal Coastal Rosarian

The most exciting single miniature/miniflora to arrive on the scene in a long time. Just as Grace Seward dominated the singles exhibition scene for years, moving forward, this miniflora is likely to do the same. A newly opened bloom is a sight to behold. It is a unique shade of red and the blooms are velvety, a rare quality among miniatures and minifloras. The stamens are outstanding. If you don’t have it by all means get it!

Strawberry Kisses is probably the best known of the David Bang bred roses in Southern California. Outstanding performer in the garden and on the show table. The upright growing plant is most attractive, attaining a height of 3 to 4 feet. Blooms are disposed singly and in large clusters. The plant does well on its own roots and even better on a vigorous rootstock. In my garden the rose appears resistant to rust with a small amount of powdery mildew late in the season.

Rose Listing Omission
Fifty Fifty
Sport of Alakazem discovered by Justin Ekuan in Dana Point, Ca, in 2018. Miniflora. Yellow blend. Striped blooms combining deep yellow(50%) and blackish red(50%). Almost all blooms heavily striped. Average diameter 2 1/2 in. Heavy bloomer. Most blooms come one to a stem, occasional large spray. Blooms in flushes throughout the season. Height: 2 1/2 ft. Width: 2 ft. Upright growth. Excellent long lasting cut flower, striking garden rose, and does well in exhibition. Disease susceptibility: susceptible to powdery mildew, resistant to rust. Unable to comment on black spot.

The virtues of this rose keep adding up. Here in SoCal western flower thrips and chili thrips are major problems for many rosarians. EML has shown amazing tolerance to both kinds of thrips.
