Hi Kathy,

Looking for large-flowered early bloomers/winter bloomers esp. David Austins and other shrubs. So far I've found Abraham Darby and Tamora to be good winter/ early spring bloomers but I'm just starting out. Looks like Gram's Hat is also early.

Can you recommend any shrubs that are very early??

TY, Nate

Hello,
This is a rose I bought 5 or 6 years ago, I didn't get the right variety. I would like to know which variety it is.
It blooms profusely only in spring (not remontant). The flowers measure between 6 and 10 cm. The fragrance of the flowers is medium to strong, reminiscent of wild roses.
What is it?
Yours sincerely,
Huyustus

P.S: I can provide more photos if needed.

I immediately thought Karlsruhe but you said it repeats. I dont notice any references that it does, but Ive never seen the rose in person. Whatever the case, the foliage looks kordesii descended.

Hello,
thank you because I think you have identified my rose tree correctly.
I have looked at all my photos, although it blooms strongly in spring I have photos from September and October so it is very remontant!

Sincerely,
Huyustus
P.S.: do you know the Westerland rose by KORDES? i have a rose that i bought that was a mistake by the shopkeeper (i ordered a purple variety...) but i'm not sure if it's him. i can send you some pictures for analysis.

Hello, here is the orange rose that reminds me of the Westerland variety of KORDES (another mistake of the seller).
thank you in advance for your help.

Wild guess: ‘Lady Emma Hamilton’?

Hello Patricia, the colors of the flower are very similar (with the variety Pat Austin that I also have), but the foliage and the branches are different, so I don't think it is the variety Emma Hamilton.
Thanks for your help,
Sincerely,
Huyustus

Well there’s a lesson for you. Give the guessee something to go on, instead of umpteen bloom photos.

I think it's the Westerland variety from Kordes, but I'd love to have someone who has this rose tree confirm this, so I can prepare its identification tag! (I currently have over 800 varieties of roses in my garden).

Good evening (in France),
thank you all for your help in identifying the rose.
To compare, here are 2 photos of the day of the Pat Austin variety and 2 of the one I am trying to identify.
Thank you very much,
Huyustus

100% not Westerland or its sports. Very different foliage, stems, and form. It does look like one of the Austin bicolors. The only thing else it could be is one of the newer Kordes orange roses, but the photos are not giving me that impression.

For information on the habit it is a stem rose, in any case thank you for the answer, as I also have the Westerland rose (not in flower at the moment), and the orange tones of Westerland seem to me to be much darker. It is true that it looks like Pat Austin or Emma Hamilton, but the foliage seems different from these two varieties. It is very resistant to disease (green and shiny), not once sick since it was planted, it reminds me of a KORDES rose, but nothing in its range matches...

Graham Thomas might sometimes look like that.

Lady of Shalott has similar blooms, as well, but the foliage is off.

I checked the newer orange Kordes roses, and there isnt a match. Not even Sierra Lady. The only Kordes that comes close is Tangerine Skies, but the foliage seems too different.

Hello,
to progress with this investigation, here is a photo of the foliage of the 4 AUSTINs you mentioned (Pat Austin, Lady of Shalott, Graham Thomas, Lady Hamilton) to compare with this unknown rose. The only foliage that matches the most is that of Pat Austin.

Quite closely, too.

I have just tried to identify its fragrance (medium strength), my guess is that it smells like a musky, slightly spicy hybrid and a tea hybrid.

I've added a few more references for 'Karlsruhe'. It does repeat.

You are right. The rose seems mislabeled in Sangerhausen. We have created a new listing as suggested in 2016 by member Hortus (see comments of photos)

What happens to the plant if unprotected in the heat? Beautiful pics. Thanks, Nate
