Everything is much earlier this year than in 2013. R. hugonis and Glory of Edzell were first, about three weeks ago; then Stanwell Perpetual and R. pendulina. But with two very warm days yesterday and today, very many more roses have opened their first flowers: Flammentanz, White Gold, R. rugosa, the various Roadrunners, R. villosa, R. multiflora, R. canina, Single Red, Laguna. It can be only another day for quite some more, including Sympathie, Postillon, Roter Korsar.
This too had its first flowers yesterday morning. If it's indeed this rose--I just found it in our garden. (Maybe it was originally a rootstock.) But it's consistent with the description and the other photos.
First of the modern roses to flower this year is Sympathie. But everything else is full of buds. I expect Flammentanz, Ghislaine, Irene Watts and some others every day.
We were away over the weekend, but one of the past three days or so Stanwell opened a whole bunch of flowers, making it the fifth rose in the garden, and the first repeating, to blossom this year. R. hugonis too has opened its first two flowers; unfortunately, they're somewhat hidden under the foliage very close to the ground.
