Hello, I am unable to use Paypal, so last year, to get around this problem, I instead made a donation using a credit card, which gave me premium membership. My premium membership expired today, so I made a donation using a credit card to renew it. However my member status is still "basic member" and was not automatically upgraded. I thought perhaps it might take a couple hours for the payment to get registered or something, so I waited, but unfortunately my premium membership is still showing as expired. Not sure what more I can do?

Mine didn't process right away this year either, and it always has.
After some hours it finally corrected itself.

Thanks and happy new year! Well, I guess they are doing it manually then. 24h later my premium membership is still not renewed. I guess the person in charge of processing this is busy with NYE/holidays.

The black-on-red star by your name suggests that it has caught up.

Unfortunately, still not, in spite of the star. I am still unable to view lineage tab info, and my "My Account" page still states my membership is "expired on December 31 2023". I checked my bank and the donation did go through, so I 'm not sure what the issue may be. Is there an email for someone I can contact?

I think that sometimes you have to log out, then log back in again. Have you tried this?.

Thank you Marlorena; I just tried what you suggested and unfortunately it didn't work. To be sure, I also tried signing in from a different device, but nope, still says my premium membership has expired. Is there a tech support email address one can contact in these cases?

There had been quite a lot of chatter about this rose - just in case those in the UK are interested, it is now available by Peter Beales as an exclusive :)

I would be sceptical that it is the real 1894 rose. Much more likely to be the "in commerce" version (which is a very good rose in its own right).

Yes, the consensus I have from other rose folk is that this is *not* the 1894 which was more of a climber and had very little to no scent. However, it is the much loved quasi hybrid perpetual that seems to have taken over the name which still has beautiful tea/china shaped flowers and an amazing scent. Everyone who has grown it, despite its sad foliage attributes, claims it is one of their favourite 'teas' - or in this case a wannabe tea :)
Beales was the main UK introduction and so still an exclusive. Are other members growing the original? If so, can they comment on their experience with the older variety?

I wouldn't call it a hybrid perpetual, more an older hybrid tea, which it's considered to be, perhaps 'Barcelona' from the 1930's. The foliage was quite good I found, glaucous, if a little sparse. I have lots of photos of it somewhere, I might post some. I don't think the original is in commerce, perhaps lost.. It's worth growing for the scent and rich dark colour.

The comments, description and references for "Francis Dubreuil - in commerce as" are worth reading. Not Francis Dubreuil, not Tea, not Barcelona, sent from Sangerhausen to Beales' nursery.

I've bought it off them at least twice in the last 20 years or so, once in the presence of Mr Beales himself, so perhaps it's time for another but I'm increasingly tired of wrongly named roses.

Are you quite sure that's 'Lady of Shalott'?.. I've never seen a bloom with that quartered style shape. The leaves don't look right either.

I find this to have a delicious scent, perhaps of the damask type, with just a hint of what they call myrrh..
The colour of the blooms, which tolerate heavy rain quite well, I would describe as a bright, hot pink, fading to candyfloss pink.. Of such luminous quality that it can probably be seen from the International Space Station..
Might need careful placing..
