Red Autumn foliage. Rose bushes on Bogd Khan Uul Mountains south of Ulan Bator, Mongolia. Altitude 2000m. Roses grow in light larch/pine/spruce/birch-forest under the trees or on natural smaller clearings, not so much on large open meadows, as they may be too dry. Rose bushes rarely exceed one foot in height. Here growing through some tumbled down drystone walls. Morning temperatures end of August just above or around freezing point. August 20th 2016.

Seedling of Rosa acicularis from Mongolia on my balcony in Göttingen, Germany. Seedling grew fast and had first bloom the second year.

Rosa acicularis. Natural habitat on Bogd Khan Uul mountains about 2000m altitude south of Ulan Bator, Mongolia. And sometimes they are also climbing up the rocks. August 25th 2016

Rosa acicularis on Bogd Khan Uul mountains south of Ulan Bator, Mongolia, at 2000m altitude.Prickly stems and red hip. Grows in deep shrub in light forest (mainly larch and pine). Height around 30cm. 25th of August 2016.
