Potted William III on balcony with the very large flowers. I have a second pot from the same batch of delivery from Schultheiss, but the second pot is down in the garden with less sun and thus less flowers. But the flowers are also very large and of deep purple colour. Flowers on the potted plants are much larger and deeper coloured than on the plants in normal garden soil. Goettingen. Germany. May 2016

This shows a flower of a plant growing in normal garden soil on the north side of my house in Goettingen, Germany. Here the whitish or silvery backside of the petals stands in contrast to the flowers of my potted William III on the southwest facing balcony. Both plants were purchased from Schultheis, though not in the same year. May 2016

I planted William III in a pot which I had on my southwest facing balcony. In May 2016 this potted plant produced huge very deeply coloured flowers, 8 cm across and thus more than double the size my bush in the garden in a more shady place ever showed. The plant I have down in my normal garden soil furthermore shows a silvery backside of the petals which is absent in the potted plant. Also the pink is much paler than with the potted plant.
