Broadlands rose photo

Broadlands pollen. There's quite quite a bit of junk pollen produced and pollen shed isn't great. But it is fertile, and looking at the pollen diameter it's most likely a diploid.

Quite a nice plant. Bi-colour blooms (pale silvery pink reverse) with intense fragrance. Another one to watch.

This seedling has good fragrance and fairly modern bloom form for a rugosa. It dose tend to ball in wet weather though. Not a bad plant if you forgive the balling.

Not a bad shrub with bi-colour flowers (reverse is white with dark pink shading at the edges). Good petal substance, but no fragrance. Not sure this one will make the cull.

One of two seedlings with 'Fimbriata'/ 'Grootendorst' like petals. The other seedling is a darker pink. Both these seedlings ate a bit lanky and would need to fill out a bit to be of value. But both are worth keeping to see how they develop.

Just an illustration of the range of pollen diameters from this cultivar. Pollen diameter ranges from 28 to 49 microns which would suggest 'Paul Délépine' is triploid.

This one is quite a cute little plant. Fairly low and compact so far, with a reasonable fragrance and blooms that are sightly reminiscent of 'Baby Faurax'. Another one to be watched.

A nice shrub, with a good scent, and large blooms. Nothing extraordinary as rugosas go but worth watching a little longer.
