Aprille: I've like many of your current photos on HMF. Any Photo(s) of Sweet Afton that you could post to supplement Robert's. Thanks. Mike, Michigan

Mike - you asked for them :o) - posting some pictures of Sweet Afton. My plant is a own-root and took about a year to bear nice blooms, I got a ton of flowers this summer, just did not get around to posting them.

Andre Le Notre sometimes looks like this ...It can have many different appearances depending on temperature. I have seen some flowers look like this. also compare the colors of Photo Id: 51656. No need to doubt the accuracy of this rose-picture!

As far as I know this picture is accurate - meaning, it's on a rose bush named Betty White which I got from Reagan's Nursery here in CA - they are pretty reliable (I've not heard any negative thing about them with regard to mislabeling) - the colour changes with the weather, it's usually a bit more pink than this picture. If you still think it's in the wrong place, I'd gladly take it off.

Hi, Aprille. No need to remove your picture. Let's check some of the botanical details of your plant with other roses that have the lighter blooms. We know that our cooler weather in the Bay Area can bring out color that is washed out in the heat in other locations - - although your garden may be in one of the warmer parts of the bay.
The bloom is one of the least helpful indicators of the exact identity of a rose. Oh, generally, it's a help, but not when it gets down to specifics. It is much more helpful to see a cane with prickles and a nice complete leaf and a bud. I know you won't be able to produce these in the dead of winter, but over time, if you remember, give it a try. Winter is a great time to shoot the canes if you strip the foliage.
You can post these separately. Once you've done so, others with the lighter blooms will hopefully compare.
One thing we should all appreciate is how variable petal count and bloom color can be in different climates.

Niels and Cass: Very helpful comments on Aprille's photo of Andre le Notre. That is, color depending on temperature. I have Andre on order, but had been wondering about the different colors of it from different contributors and even different colors from the same grower. Mike, Michigan

Hi Aprille,
First, I would just like to tell you that when ever I am looking for information on HMF or Garden Web. you usually have a post or a photo of the rose I am looking for. Most recently it was Caramel Antike. I was placing an order with Palatine and I wanted to see a better picture. I was so happy when I saw your "I'm in love with Caramel" post. So thank you very much for taking the time to share photos and information.
I was wondering if you would give me your opinion about Ginger Syllabub and Morning Greeting?I am trying to find a climber that has a full flower and is a good bloomer.
Best Regards, Leslie.

Hi Leslie, Thank you for your kind words. I am very happy with my Caramel Antike - if I had more room I'd get a few more.
I like both Ginger Syllabub & Morning Greeting - the flowers are full, they are both in pots waiting to be planted in their permanent spot - it's hard to say too much because I've only had both for less than a year - but so far I am happy with it. Ginger Syllabub is more fragrant than Morning Greeting from what I recall. Both have stayed pretty clean for me this year and really not got too out of control or leggy, specially considering that they are in pots and not trained.
Hope this helps. If I had to make a choice between the two it would be really difficult, but personally I'd go with Ginger Syllabub cos it bloomed a bit more than Morning Greeting and smelled better - that said the blooms on Morning Greeting are pretty breath-taking too!
Best Regards, Aprille

Hi Aprille,
Thank you for the reply. I couldn't decide between the two roses and I ended up ordering both from Pickering for Spring. I hope they do well here too. I live about an hour from Pickering, Palatine and Hortico in zone 6. I ordered Caramel Antike from Palatine for fall. I couldn't believe the size of the roses when I opened the box. Palatine really does have beautiful roses and great customer service.
I am new to growing roses, mine were all planted this year. So I really appreciate everyone who takes the time to share information and beautiful pictures.
Thanks so much.
Best Regards,
Leslie.
