My favourite rose. If I was allowed to have only one rose this would be it. Simply glorious colour, and shapely buds that open slowly into large beautiful flowers with a lovely scent. The plant is completely healthy and vigorous. Excellent as an exhibition rose.

One of mine too, Rosalie. I am always blown away by its parentage.

A further reflection on this rose, after watching it for a few months after my last comment:

This is NOT a rose you can grow in partial shade - not at all. It sulks; the flowers come out yellow-green and misshapen, and it grows slowly if at all. It doesn't seem to care that much if it doesn't quite get 6+ hours of sun, on the other hand, as long as it gets direct sun. Once I moved it to a spot where it was getting full sun for a few hours a day, it started producing gorgeous, slow-opening flowers.

DIAMOND JUBILEE is on sale at WalMART for $8. It does indeed have a strong pleasing scent and the roses are long-stemmed and very stately. Seen in norCAL.

I'm finding that this rose is very sensitive to heat, fertilizer, and water levels, much moreso than others I own. It's the first to get a bit crispy around the leaves if there's not enough water, and the combination of adjustments to watering and fertilizer and 100+ heat led it to give me some phenomenally ugly just-yellower-than-green blooms. Now that the weather has cooled off down to the 90s and it's getting the right amounts of water, it's starting to actually resemble the photos here on HMF.

Why can't I find this rose listed in any of my books? I have looked everywhere for information on this rose and the only place I can find anything is on the internet. Does it have another name?

Jess.........

I am not sure what rose books you have been checking, but if you go to the rose page in the HelpMeFind database for 'Diamond Jubilee' and click on the References tab, you will find several references where you can find out more information about the rose.

Smiles,

Lyn
