I received this as cutting from a friend. I fell in love with the color, fragrance and beauty. The cutting was overlooked for a few days and when I remembered her she looked as thought she would not survive. I have never had good luck with rooting over winter anyway. So I stuck the scored stem in some rooting hormone and put in in an area and hilled it over.
Wow, not only did she root, but 3 years later I have a massive plant that blooms such beautiful, fluffy fragrant roses. Yes she gets a little spring mildew, but once we get our warm temps this subsides. And I have not seen a black spot problem at all, but we have very low humidity here.
Love this rose!

i grew this rose for 4years in my yard, purchased as a fall potted rose from J&P. It started off very slowly, took three years for it to establish. I shoveled it last season because it is NOT a repeat bloomer. Zephirine only gave me one flush per season, i have limited space and like to grow continual bloomers only. This rose does not fit the description Jackson Perkins gave of it. In its place i planted Aloha climber, which is a much better fit for my garden needs

Maybe you had to be more patient and after establishing it would have rewarded You several times a year.
But maybe You got the wrong rose?
Aloha (Boerner) is an excellent choice in my opinion, that one is very hardy, healthy, beautiful and very deliciously fragrant in my humble opinion.

thank you for responding, i purchased two of them from J&P, so i was very upset when they only bloomed once. I held out hope for so long, then i finally made the decision to shovel them, i figure i could have got two dud bushes, but i was too afraid of losing more money to try again.

I meant: look how well they behave at a bad spot. You might have had weak plants.
