I agree....absouletly covered in thorns! First year in the ground and growth is very vigorous, twiggy, full to the ground, and constantly covered with clusters of perfect small 2" pink fragrant flowers. I am disappointed with the bloom size though, and flowers blow fast. No disease at all--sprayed only once--and that makes it a keeper. Too flimsy and thorny for vase use.
9-09 Updated...We had a very humid, rainy August and this rose did blackspot/defoliate despite spraying. I may not keep HC because of the thorn issue....the canes and branches snag eachother and bunch up with any breeze or wind. You can't get near the bush without getting super-prickeled...it's not worth it.
12-2011---Must be sprayed --- and I couldn't take the unbelievable prickles anymore----gone.

This is really a lovely little rose!

Bloom sre perfectly formed, smallish (not "large"!, the largest I've seen is around 6-7 cm), they exhibit a neat, perfectly cupped rosette formation reminiscent of gallica with a touch of "Rose de Meaux" character, quartered and filled with many little petals, showing a beautiful button. They appear profusely in clusters, and rebloom is fairly ready (not at all "occasional"!). They are a beautifully pure pink colour typical of some popular old roses like "Comte de Chambord" (which is in its parentage tree), "Celsiana" and "Chapeau de Napoleon", slightly fading with age.

Foliage has true old rose character, leavets are small and almost opaque, medium green with a grey touch. It's very healthy, at least in my garden, and it has got good heat tolerance. Stems are thin, and quite heavily thorny.

Fragrance is wonderful, both in quality and strength! Even more so, if you think that this gorgeus little rose is almost a miniature.
It is mainly damask, with some hints of Alba and a very little touch of Austin's "Heritage". The usual Austin's myrrh accent is virtually absent, which is very good to my opinion because usually I don't like it so much.
