I volunteer in two gardens in Fremont, CA: California Nursery Historical Park and Shinn Park and Arboretum. Both gardens have rose gardens. Although they are not historic rose gardens, they do have old roses. Unfortunately many roses have lost their tags and we have to rely on peoples' memories.

I want to find out if the Niles Cochet exists in either of these two gardens. I'm new to rose ID. But I've had some experience with plant taxonomy, so I think I could figure it out eventually. What are the characteristics of a Niles Cochet? What books should I reference? The Niles Cochet originated on the property of the California Nursery. The original rose growing area is now a quarry lake. But the neighborhoods of Niles might reveal a bush or two. I'd like to make it a community project to find our Niles Cochet rose. The California Nursery Company did have a role in supplying Oakland's Morcom rose garden and they do have a Niles Cochet rose there with a label. But I'd like to find it nearby in Niles. Thanks for any help!
Janet

Oh! I forgot to mention that I grew 'Niles Cochet' for a number of years. I got it from Tom Liggett who is associated with the San Jose Heritage Rose Garden. You might ask the Curator Jill Perry about it. She might know where you can acquire a specimen. Robert

And read the HelpMefind page on 'Niles Cochet' - and the references, members comments, and look at the photos.

Thanks for the suggestions. I looked through all the helpful topics and pictures. I have some photos of the suspected Niles Cochet roses so I've posted them in my original post. I suppose I really should have posted them in a different category. But I'm here, so what do you think? Does it look like a Niles Cochet? This bush is about 6 feet tall and 5 feet wide.

Your photos look correct. However I don't grow the rose and have never seen it. I am sure Jill Perry or other California rosarians will be able to guide you further.
