Me as well. Unfortunately, for me, growing in cold and damp Northeast, with damp, heavy soil, roses from southern nurseries don't seem to thrive, and many have not survived our winters.. This is no fault of Chamblee, of course, or of any other nursery, but I have learned to buy own root roses from northern sources whenever possible.

I live in temperate rain forest NW Oregon. Have not had that issue. Most issues I get are from waxed roses, from box vendors. That wax just seems to really put the noose on new growth in our darker springs.

I have actually had better success with the waxed boxbags here than I did in CA, where they tended to succumb to the hot wind and dry soils. Here, there is enough water in the soil that the roots don't dry out before the plant has had time to slough off the wax. Have you tried soaking your bareroots in a mudbath first? Not just water, but squelching mud which will cling to the roots. There is a French word for this technique which I am afraid I have forgotten.

I usually soak bare roots in water the day prior to planting. Which is almost silly, considering the soil here is basically mud until May.

I agree- I have yet to have a failure with a waxed plant, at least with roses other than Peace.

My order just arrived. All four roses were big and healthy and blooming. Crepescule had 5 blooms on it. I'm thrilled.

I just received a shipment of five roses from Chamblees.
My shipment arrived in California (94112) on Friday evening, in the nick of time for the weekend. The plants are all vigorous and healthy, with no dead or diseased vegetation. Most of the plants have buds and one even has flowers.
The plants were well packed for shipment and arrived undamaged.
My order was purely via the website so I can't comment on the staff's knowledgeability or the newsletter.
I'm very pleased to get high quality own-root roses at a good price. I just hope the gophers don't find them before they get established!
