Shot for Billy, re comments about prickles. It doesn't have any, of any size, anywhere. Which is a surprise. As far as I know nobody has ever mentioned it being totally thornless.
Of course this one has only been in the ground just over a year. It may decided to sprout fangs to rival a dragonfish, just to annoy me. On the other hand it was grafted two years before leaving the nursery, so you'd think it would've made up its mind by now.
I have noticed that it does seem to like sprouting branches in odd places at right angles. You can see a few in the shot.

To be honest, I'm already finding this rose a bit disappointing. The scent is good. The foliage is good. The problem is the blooms themselves.
They look good in bud, and when only half open, but once they get past that stage they rapidly get a scruffy and graceless look about them.
Now yes, I do realise one or two blooms in the picture could be deadheaded. However, they basically look that rough about as soon as they open, with the result that the bush always looks faintly displeasing.
Contrast this with Rosette Delizy, which also has good scent and foliage, has a similar colour range for the blooms, but a much cleaner and more elegant look. I'm currently of the option that Rosette Delizy is the superior rose.
