Does anyone have any experience growing Mermaid in USDA Zone 6 or lower, where winter temperatures are 0℉/-18℃ or colder?

A friend got one a few years ago and it didn't survive the first winter. Care for it was less than top notch that year (almost neglected) and it wasn't protected in winter. It was planted where it was exposed to prevailing wind. Cards were stacked against it but that is the only Mermaid I know of grown here in Montana, zone 4/5.

Thanks! I suspect that Zone 5 listed by a vendor is wishful thinking. I'm interested in anyone's experience trying to keep Mermaid alive and blooming in the colder zones. Alive and not blooming doesn't count.

Mermaid is extremely good at coming back from the roots. I'll bet if someone could get it through the first Winter or two it would survive just fine.

Of course getting it to flower might be another story.

Mine was growing on own roots near the foundation of my house, and came back for 3 years and flowered. Shelburne, Vermont, Zone 4/5. It never got really big, so I dug it up this year and moved it to my parents' garden in NJ.

The name is Happenstance or Baby Mermaid. You can see it here:

I've added your nursery as a supplier.

I finally got my "Mermaid" this year, planted in spring. Although winters are mild here on the North Sea, I realise that I live in the very outskirts of this rose`s preferred climates in as much as she is regarded a rather delicate one.As it is not explisitly said in the books that she is not suitable for growing in Norway, I decided to give it a try anyway.I planted her at the foot of a tree together with "Alexandre Girault" which is two years old and quite vigorous already. Now the little darling "Mermaid" has grown to a height of about 25cm, and has given me much joy displaying her one single flower which was very beautiful indeed. I also realise that my plant will never in any way be able to match some of the "monster" Mermaids I have had the pleasure of seeing in some of the uploaded photos, or the ones I saw on a trip to France. But I will do everything I can to hibernate her, hoping she will grow and flower more vigorously next year. I have never covered up my roses for the winter, but I think I will make an exception for this one.

Mermaid likes warmth so she should be okay in your area.
